Your Owen County Community Foundation
For Good. Forever. For Owen County.
The Owen County Community Foundation started the way many good ideas start, with an informal conversation among interested citizens. A group of community members met by chance on the south side of the Court House Square in Spencer and discussed a new concept in building strong communities - community foundations. At that time, only 400 or so community foundations existed in the United States with only a few in Indiana. Lilly Endowment Inc. had recently shown an interest in working to form and help develop community foundations in ten or twelve of the largest communities in the state. After several meetings and contacts with Lilly Endowment Inc., those interested citizens became the first board of directors of OCCF and began the work of legally organizing a completely local group that would commit to helping Owen County.
From 1994 when the founding board paid OCCF expenses from their own donations, your OCCF has grown into an endowment worth over $4 million with over 75 individual granting funds.
The Owen County Community Foundation is committed to help make our communities become better places to grow, work, and live.
