Scholarship Funds

Babbs Supermarket Scholarship Fund.  
Established in 2006 by Babbs Supermarket to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior that also works at Babbs, or has a family member employed at Babbs.

Bennie J. and Joan R. Woodruff Scholarship Fund.  
Established in 2001 as a Charitable Remainder Trust by Bennie J. Woodruff.  In 2017 the remainder of the trust became a scholarship fund to provide an annual scholarship to an Owen County current year graduating high school senior with strong academics, record of good community service, and a financial need. This is a four year renewable scholarship.

Braysville Extension Homemakers Club. 
Established in 1999 to award a scholarship to an OVHS senior who resides in Owen County and will be attending a vocational school.

Burns Family Fund.  
Established in 2011 by John S. Burns and his family to provide a scholarship to an adult student who resides in Owen County and attends vocational-technical school. 

Charles T. Cooper Scholarship.  
Established in 2007 to honor long-time law enforcement professional Chuck Cooper and to provide an annual scholarship to an OVHS senior to attend an accredited college or university to pursue a degree in a law enforcement related field.

Charles W. Edwards Scholarship
A fund established in 1998 in honor of attorney Charles Edwards to provide an award for high academic performance to an Owen County high school senior pursuing a degree in law or a law-related field.

Coyne Family Fund
Established in 2005 by family members in memory of Marian Annette Coyne.  Requires proof of admission to a College or School of Education. Open to Owen County residents who are pursuing post-secondary education. Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate teacher education program, preferably with special education endorsement. to provide a scholarship to an Owen County high school senior pursuing degree work at an accredited college or university resulting in qualification to be certified to teach in the field of special education.

David Campbell Gray Scholarship.  Established in 2003 using a bequest from David Gray to award a scholarship to an OVHS senior who resides in Gosport or Wayne Township.

David Livingston Scholarship.  Established in 2007 by David Livingston to provide a scholarship for an OVHS senior who has shown the largest increase in GPA from sophomore to senior year.

Dyer Family Scholarship Fund.  
in 2011 to provide a scholarship to graduating seniors of OVHS who will attend a college, university, or technical school in pursuit of a degree or certification. The scholarship award is renewable for up to 4 years of college or the normal period required to complete an associate degree or trade certification.

Elliott Hickam Memorial Scholarship.  
Established in 2000 to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior pursuing a degree from IU and who exhibits outstanding leadership qualities. This fund honors the many contributions of attorney Elliott Hickam.

Educators Philanthropic Investment Chapter (EPIC) Scholarship Fund.  
Established and funded by educators within the Spencer-Owen Community School Corporation for the purpose of providing an OVHS graduating seniors with a scholarship to pursue a college education.  

Erika Wells Scholarship Fund.  
Established in 2017 by the Owen County State Bank in honor of the 1997 Owen Valley High School graduate Erika Wells, to provide a scholarship for an Owen Valley High School graduating senior. 

Freedom Alumni Scholarship.  
Established in 1998 by the Freedom High School Alumni to provide an award to an Owen County high school senior who is a descendant of a Freedom Alumni.

Gary McCarter Scholarship.  Established by the McCarter Family to honor Gary M. McCarter, a native of Patricksburg, to provide a scholarship to a graduating senior from Owen Valley High School who is planning to obtain a four-year college or a two-year vocational/technical degree. 

Geraldine & Wilma Bucklew Educational Scholarship Fund.  
Established in 2014 by Geraldine Bucklew to provide an award to an Owen County high school senior who is planning on attending a two-year or four-year college.

George & Nancy Thurston Artistic Scholarship.  
Established in 2015 to provide an award to an Owen County high school graduate that plans to pursue a course of study in any field of the fine arts. This fund was established by the Thurston’s to celebrate their love of the arts.

Gosport Alumni Scholarship.  
Established in 1998 to provide an award to an Owen County high school senior who is a descendant of a Gosport Alumni.

Gosport Lions Club Scholarship.  
Established in 2000 to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior who is a resident of Gosport or Wayne Township.

Ione W. Fulk Scholarship.  
Established in 2002 to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior pursuing a four-year degree at any school of higher education in the state of Indiana, majoring in elementary education. Ione Wells Fulk was a beloved career teacher in Spencer schools.

James P. Root Scholarship.  
Established in 2002 in honor of Pastor James P. Root to provide a scholarship to a resident of Owen, Monroe, Greene or Lawrence counties to pursue a career in full-time Christian Service who will be attending a school affiliated with Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ.

Jefferson Township/Coal City Alumni.  
Established in 1999 by alumni of Coal City High School to provide a scholarship to a descendant of a Coal City alumni or a resident of Jefferson Township.

Jeffrey Wayne Johnson Scholarship.  
Established in 2007 by his family to honor Jeff’s memory and to provide a scholarship to an OVHS graduating senior pursuing a degree at Indiana State University.

 Jim & Wilma Fulford Scholarship.  
Established in 2004 by OCCF to honor Mr. Fulford for his contributions as the first executive director and to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior pursuing a four-year degree.

Joe Carmichael/Sons of the American Legion.  
Established in 2000 to honor Joe Carmichael, the original founder of the Spencer Sons of the American Legion to fund an annual scholarship for graduating seniors pursuing a two or four year degree at an accredited college, university, or technical school.

 John Moore Scholarship.  Established in 1998 to honor Mr. Moore’s contributions as a coach and teacher and to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior who has been a student athlete and plans to attend a four-year school in Indiana.

Josephine Brown Owens Scholarship.  
Established in 1990 by Josephine Brown Owens to award the OVHS senior with the highest grades accumulated in four years of high school mathematics.

 Judy Hamilton Scholarship Fund
A former director of your Community Foundation, Judy established this fund through her will to provide an annual scholarship for a post-secondary student pursuing a 4 year degree.

Loretta Heidrick Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1998 by Ronald and Dolores Heidrick in memory of their sister, a  long-time educator, to provide a scholarship to an Owen County student pursuing a degree in education, preferably elementary education.

Lyle and Marion Brighton Scholarship
Established in 1999 by John and Carol Brown, in honor of her parents, Lyle and Marion Brighton, long-time residents of Gosport, to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior continuing their education.

Margaret Marley Pinkston Scholarship
Established by Mrs. Pinkston in 2006 to provide a scholarship to an Owen County student already attending college and enrolled in a four-year course of study.

Mearl and Laverne Brown Scholarship
Established in 1999 by John and Carol Brown, in honor of his parents, Mearl and Laverne Brown, long-time residents of Gosport, to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior continuing their education.

Melvin R. and Margaret A. Hall Nursing Scholarship.  
Established in 1998 by Mr. and Mrs. Melvin R. Hall to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior who will be studying in the field of nursing.

Michael D. Magner Scholarship Fund
Established in 2009 to provide a scholarship to a graduating OVHS senior pursuing a doctor of Veterinarian Medicine degree.

Michael Job Vocational Scholarship.  
Established in 2000 by Michael Job to provide a scholarship to an Owen County senior who is pursuing an education at a vocational/technical school.

Myrtle S. Marshall Scholarship.  Established in 2003 to provide a scholarship to an outstanding business student at OVHS.

Our Community Bank Scholarship.  Established in 2000 by the local bank to provide a scholarship to a college-bound Owen County high school senior.

Owen County IU Varsity Club Scholarship
Established in 2000 to provide a scholarship to a graduating senior who will be attending Indiana University.

Owen Valley FFA Scholarship.  
Established in 1998 by an anonymous donor to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior who is a member in good standing of the OV FFA Chapter.

Patricksburg Alumni Scholarship.  Established in 1998 by the alumni of Patricksburg High School to provide a scholarship to a high school senior who is a descendant of a Patricksburg alumni.

PFC Brett Wood Memorial Scholarship.  
Established to honor the memory of PFC Brett Wood and award an OVHS graduating senior with a scholarship based on commitment to citizenship.

Quincy Alumni Scholarship.  Established in 1998 by the alumni of Quincy High School to provide a scholarship to a high school senior who is a descendant of a Quincy Alumni.

Robert and Barbara Stanley Bonness Scholarship Fund.  
Established in 2007 by Barbara Stanley Bonness, from plans made many years prior with her husband Robert, to help their community and honor their alma mater by awarding a four-year renewable scholarship to an OVHS senior attending Purdue University to study in the areas of Ag Science or Consumer & Family Science.

Roma Wilson Scholarship.  Established by the Wilson family to honor the memory of their mother, Roma. Preference for this award will be given to a single mother trying to advance her education.

Ronald E. and Carol Patterson Dillingham Scholarship Fund.   Established by Ron Dillingham and Carol Patterson Dillingham to grant graduating seniors who have completed at least two years of Air Force Jr. ROTC with a scholarship to attend an accredited college or university.

Spencer Alumni Scholarship.  Established in 1997 to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior who is a descendant of a Spencer Alumni.

Tri Kappa Scholarship Fund.  
Established in 2011, this fund serves as the base for four scholarship funds including: The Cochran-Royar Scholarship, Continuing Education Scholarship, Lillian Dyar Music Scholarship, Vocational Scholarship, and the Hope Achievement award.

Vada Baker Scholarship Fund.  Established in 2007 by the Gosport Community Development Corp. in honor of Vada Baker’s contributions to the Gosport area to provide an annual scholarship to an OVHS senior who is a resident of the Gosport Elementary School district and is pursuing a career in elementary education.

West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home.  
Established in 1997 by the local business to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior who is continuing their education at college.

Woody and Barry Franklin Scholarship
Established in 2000 to provide a scholarship to an OVHS senior who resides in Franklin Township and will be studying a four-year business program.
